It was weird from a lore perspective that this place would be the only region in the world to not have any "old" pokemon in the first place. BW2 is more cohesive with the rest of the franchise

I think in bw postgame there were already swarms of national dex pokemon invading certain routes. and the postgame routes included a lot of national dexmon so they could have spread.
doesn’t make much sense worldbuilding wise but i’m not complaining, bw2 had a fun dex.

They mention in BW (not sure if they bring it up in B2W2 as well) that some Pokémon escaped from the Poké Transfer Lab which is implied to be the reason Gen 1-4 mons appeared in Unova. And presumably they just spread across the region in the 2 years between BW and B2W2. When you think about it, it's not that different from how a bunch of Johto mons just appear in Kanto in Gen 2/HGSS.
