The game was so definitive at the time, having almost every Pokemon obtainable in just the two games. Then there are situations like Regigigas which require Pokemon that are not in the games, but instead required communication with gen 3 games.
It honestly seems like they'll have no choice but to make it the definitive gen 4 game just so they can account for those dozen or so Pokemon from the gen 4 nat dex that you can't obtain. Would be pretty cool if they just said fuck it and found a way to incorporate them in. They could easily just incorporate the Regi trio event from Platinum to cover Regis, and the birds were roamers in Platinum so that covers them. The additional legends would need some other kind of bullshit to fit them in though.
