The original Diamond and Pearl, along with Platinum, are pretty well regarded games.
Personal opinions aside, the Gen 4 games are regarded as some of the best in the series, if not THE best.
The main complaint these games get is a simple one, they're slow. The HP bars, the battle speed, and the "saving lots of data" message really do make the game feel sluggish.
If Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl can fix the game speed while being an extremely faithful remake, that would mean, objectively, these could end up being some of the best games in the series, if not THE best games in the series.
