>>46429787The idea of an adoptable in general is that you're selling the rights to a character you created to someone basically, so if I make some character for a game but decided I say lost interest in making said game I could just sell that character as an adoptable, or I could make a ton of designs intended to be sold off and then make money off that.
The problem arises from things like adoptables of copywritten works you dont own. Only reason these people PROBABLY get away with doing this is for the same reason a lot of people get away with drawing fanart for patreon, or drawing commissions of already owned characters for what ever reason, or selling art prints or plushes, or making porn of those characters. Well that and usually a lot of adoptable designs of established brands tend to be utter garbage yet people buy them for what ever reason, possibly because they have some connections in various groups or what ever or because a lot of furries tend to like "stand out" designs that go for very bright garish looks to look unique. At least that's how I always viewed it
