Each starter trio is supposed to be a GROUP on EQUAL STANDING. Even if they can't all be exactly equal, it's supposed to feel like there is no wrong choice for a kid to pick. Breakout iindividual pokemon like Lucario or Mewtwo or the mascot Pikachu don't carry this burden.
People get upset when Charizard gets treated with obvious favoritism over the other two in its trio. Two megas, pokeride, available in SwSh with a new super form and ace of the unbeatable champion, the list goes on. If all the kanto starters were pushed as much as zard has been, fewer people would have a problem with it because they would feel more like pikachu. "Oh they're the original starters, of course they get more attention than the rest." But no, it's just charizard that gets all the toys, not just against the other gens' starters but within its own trio, for no reason.
