With that being said, 'what they were trying to convey despite the technical limitation of the era' is disingenuous as fuck. Gen 4 doesn't look that way because of the era, Pokemon developers were hacks then and they're hacks now. There were full 3D experiences on the DS, and plenty of RPGs that broke free from the grid-based bullshit on the GBA (probably even the GBC too). They chose that grid shit back then and they're choosing it now. The laziness we're seeing in the Sinnoh remakes has been over a decade in the making, it hasn't just come out of nowhere.
