Sometimes I do because then I'll just end up taking a bunch of common ly used mons, there's nothing wrong with them, just that I want to use something different sometimes.

Not when playing a new gen for the first time. In fact, I go in as blind as possible. I want to see new mons pop up naturally instead of knowing where it is and when it evolves etc.
but when I do a new playtrough I do plan out my teams. I usually just breed some quick babbies and then either trade with myself or use Bank to funnel the mons to myself.

I train as many Pokemon as possible. My aim is for every battle to be challenging so I don't train any one Pokemon too much. I also don't use PCs to enhance this challenge. It's the most fun way to play the game and it feels more mindful too
