Unironically, technical limitations. I think they couldn't get the link cables to work. On top of that, gen III changed everything under the hood so they wouldn't even be the same after a hypothetical transfer forward.

VC transfers via the transporter, for instance, basically generate a totally new Pokemon with a set of parameters shared with the original.

Same reason as gen 8. Gamefreak were lazy and incompetent.

Inb4 Hoennfags desperately try to cope. Nintendo added the fucking GB CABLE PORT to the GBA for the sole purpose of up-porting Pokemon to the new games. Gamefreak just didn't take advantage.

You can transfer GB Pokemon into Sun and Moon. It was absolutely possible.

i got lucky, they were still saved in a snapshot of my gbc action replay. i traded them to another console using the "game boy r4" thing and ripped the save. it costed me 80 bucks just to save around twenty pokemon from blue, yellow and the snapshot of silver, but was worth it
