stealth rock is just a move they find important I guess
flying is already one of the best types, but it ignoring spikes and having no entry threats would make it the de facto best type by a fair margin
Maybe stealth rocks goes too far, but it hs a purpose

Most of the culled moves either were a signature for something not in the game, something that was completely worthless to learn, or something that has a bunch of weird coding rules. Nothing was cut for being too good.

There's more Pokemon immune to Ground than any other type, meaning they're also immune to Spikes.
Flying and levitating mons would just be able to avoid Spikes and switch forever. And I don't think it's a coincidence that SR was added in the same gen that nearly every Flying-type got a reliable recovery move.

The only actually useful moves that were removed were Pursuit, Return/Frustration and Refresh.

And Stealth Rock just deletes rock weak Pokemon from the match. Except it's even worse because Pursuit at least requires you to bait out a dark weak mon and get it out there in front of your Pursuit-user.
With Stealth Rock, you click the move turn 1 and suddenly everything weak to rock is as good as dead. No strategy, thought, or risk involved.

An electric type hazard would punish water types for nothing and ground-types would be immune to it.
An ice type hazard would punish grass, dragon, and ground types for nothing.

You can't legitimately use a signature move without the Pokémon that learns it available. In almost every case the Pokémon being reintroduced allowed the move to be used again (for example Palossand and Shore Up).
