I can honestly forgive all the mishaps of gen 6-7 because those two generations are among the best looking 3ds titles, with the highest quality models to date- for the 3ds that is. Frame rate dips in battle were responsible. How ironic it is that it still hasn't changed despite the significant jump in processing paper.

This was because the 3ds was rendering very high poly models which it could barely handle, if game freak hadn't been lazy and modified the models for the 3ds the games would have ran just fine.

In a shocking twist of events, I'm willing to side with Game Freak here. The highly detailed models of Gens 6 and 7 are easily among the best parts of those games. The pokemon all look stellar there, posing and animation aside. The high poly models might've tanked the framerate, but I'd say it's well worth it to have the pokemon be as detailed as they were.

7 definitely was, 6 wasn't even close. 3D Land, Mario Kart, Ocarina and Majora's and any of the Kirby games mog the shit out of XY and ORAS. I guess they at least did look better than FE Awakening.

Optimization usually takes place once major assets are in place, meaning that during development the game is not optimized at all. High resolution assets would make working in the game difficult. Its better to just use shit looking assets to avoid putting strain on the game.
