I truly don't get the hate.
The beard, the helmet, the armor, in my mind Samurott is easily one of the most badass starters. Easily the far and away winner of Unova when Emboar and it's yellow markings and the snake painted green are your alternatives.
Does it really all just come down to him being a quadruped?
Do you really want him to be a biped, in retrospect? Think about how maligned humanoid jobmons have become. Would it really be better it he was a vaguely otter themed Samurai instead of a crazy otter horse thing with Samurai evocative design elements? I don't really think he needs a sword, either, I imagine him slashing with his horn which is way cooler than the sleeve swords they retroactively added to appease you guys after you bitched about him.
Samurott doesn't deserve this and I'm glad he gets to be in the spotlight again with Legends Arceus.
