The only thing I hate about the split is that I have to memorize all the moves or look them up if I forget (which arguably is a lot easier now than it once was). I just wish they would edit the text for physical and special moves like "Golduck fired off an ce beam! or "Gyrados knocked them with a waterfall!"

Physical special split is that in the older games some moves like water or fire always used special attack and special defenses and some moves like fighting or normal always used attack and defense. So some mons like gyarados, Flareon, or arcanine who had high attack but their stab moves were special couldn't properly use their attack stat without giving up stab. It also ment that pokemon with shit attack but good special like typhlosion could use other special moves as coverage and not have to worry about their attack stat at all. Jolteon and vaporeon were better than flareon because all 3 had a 110 special stat, but flareon got its 130 in attack where as jolteon got his in speed and vaporeon got his in hp. So jolteon and vaporeon had great attack and were fast/bulky and flareon had a stat he couldn't properly leverage.

No they're saying that can't remember which moves are physical or not POST split since every single move has that determination separately.
The weird part of that is most moves are fairly intuitive as for which they are post-split and his complaint about "looking them up" is so minimal since the move info/status screen in Pokemon shows the fucking indicator graphic that I don't know why he would mention it as a negative.

I'd say most mons lost something in gen 4 and only got something similar back later

The only moves Sceptile lost was Leaf Blade (It got Energy Ball anyways) and ThunderPunch. The rest of its best moves were already physical anyways.

Focus Miss is an actual meme.

admittedly good but the punches gave it a lot more viability as a jack-of-all-trades special sweeper, with the split Alakazam basically got focused into only being able to hit a few types SE without giving up something else
and again Azelf could do the same shit it did but with Nasty Plot, it got smacked down hard

Feraligatr has great coverage in gsc due to ice punch and dig/earthquake. Gyarados was good in gen 1, but it has like a 125 base attack so it was nerfed in gen 2 after the special split and only fixed in gen 4. Arcanine had a the flareon issue of better attack than special gen 1, but his special was buffed gen 2 anyway to be within 10 and arcanine's issues in gen 1 were more a very limited move set than anything else.
