Hey fuck you man, Dark type's cool. Solid designs across the board (bar some outliers, cough cough Baracat), and the moves fit the type's theme of dirty fighting really well.

That's one of my favorite aspects. Not counting Z-moves or Judgement, and with the signature move exceptions of Hyperspace Fury and Aura Wheel for some fucking reason, there still to this day are no Dark Type moves with a base power of 100 or more. You can tell this is intentional, because Dark Types are supposed to win fights by being clever and underhanded. It's nice attention to detail.

I like it, but Dark Type's weird because unlike literally every other Type except maaaybe Fighting and Normal, Dark is a primarily a combat style.

Dark is also strange in that being a Dark Type doesn't grant you any special powers. If you're Electric Type, you get to shoot lightning. If you're Fighting, you probably have super strength. Dark is not like that, the only exception is that maaaaaybe being a Dark Type grants you powers of unusually high cunning and sneakiness, but that's kind of a stretch. They don't seem to have special powers for the most part at all.

Mostly Dark seems to just be a personality trait or a kind of flag indicating 'has dirty fighting style'.

I ran a dark monotype team back in gen 6, and it was a ton of fun. Not a lot of raw power, but Knock Off, Prankster and Taunt brings powerhouses down to their level. It's a different playstyle that's really satisfying to work with.
