I only ever liked playing the canon trainers. It helps me better immerse myself into the story if my choice and the lore are consistent. Besides if I want the other Pokemon I could just trade for them anyway.

That is called circumstantial evidence. We wouldnt need to have this discussion if the people trolling "canon" discussion just accepted Satoshi Tajiris statement from the manga in the first place. This was actually written into the coverpages of the first releases of the manga. Pic related should be a checkmate.

People saying the manga isnt canon are just being obtuse and saying "muh games" or "muh anime" because its something they grew up with and have the fondest connections with. Not any objective reasons.

This is such a trollshit argument because canon here is used with a different context to denote each series has its own established universe and completely sidesteps the fact the manga is the most authentic telling of the story (ie: The Marvel movieverse has its own canon but is not the canonized depiction of all the heroes and storylines. Not the true story.)

This. Canon varies depending on the medium considered, you cannot unify the three.
Think of it as parallel universes.

Then again, I consider the Game to be the most important one, since it generated spin offs being anime and manga.
