I'm doing a terrible shitmon-only run in gold, is it gay to use Togetic? I mean it just looks like a bird, but it becomes fairy type later on...

This is an autistic take if you don't want to waste TMs, especially Toxic. Steps could be:

Learnt by Oddish line > Paras > Shuckle.

I don't think a chain is possible in gen 2 alone.
Another option without the TM would be a gen 1 Caterpie or Weedle with Mimic. Raise a Slowking or Politoed with Swagger, meet a wild Ditto, let it transform and then switch to your Mimic user. Caterpie/Weedle > Shuckle.

>Rest with a berry to wake up. No TM needed, learned at level 37, but fuck that, better breed it.
Raise the odd egg and get Jigglypuff to level 29, chain breed > Hoppip > Shuckle.

>Bide, learn by leveling up too. At level 28, this could replace either Strength or Flash till you get a good HM slave to carry them. By level 30 you should be able to get a Krabby near Olivine's gym.
