Pokemon event is meaningless for future fighters. If we get a Pokemon added, they'll just be part of a more specialized event that deals with them as an individual fighter, rather than only being another Pokemon. Cinderace? Sports event. Toxtricity? Electricity or music event. Decidueye? Archer event. Urshifu? Martial arts event.

Yep, he said in an interview that he was torn between the two. But with Rowlet being a Legends starter, I could see Decidueye being added as the final fighter at the end of the year, especially since all of Fighters Pass 2 so far has been characters who were planned/wanted for base game but didn't make it in time. Sakurai has stated in interviews that he wanted to include fighters from both Arms and Xenoblade 2 in the base game but they couldn't due to time constraints. And we also know now that Sephiroth and Steve were in negotiations during early development but took too long.

DLC characters (especially pass 2) have all been a bit more mechanically complex so I think of we get another Pokemon rep it'd be a second trainer. But I can't see that trainer being another player character. It'd more likely be a named character like Blue or Cynthia. I guess Dawn and Lucas DO have names but Sakurai also didn't give Red his name so would he give Dawn and Lucas theirs?

Nothing I said has ANYTHING to do with development being linear. Are you stupid? The characters being mechanically complex has nothing to do with shitty rosterfag crap like "This character is a villain so they'll all be villains" or even "Same companies as pass 1!" The characters are DLC and they've all been crafted so far to make sure they're essentially worth the price of a new game. The mechanics aren't all the same but every character has had something more to justify the price of the DLC.

i didn’t like xenoblade 2 at all, xenoblade rep in smash was perfected with just Shulk which is why when rex was a costume it didn’t bother me at all. meanwhile there’s not a single pokémon fighter i dislike (except puff) they’re all extremely fun, with Pokémon Trainer being one of the most unique fighters in the game. Any pokémon would’ve interested me way more.
