In opposite of regular /vp/ tradition before leaving this thread you have to say ONE(1) good thing about every generation. No you are not allowed to sarcastically disguise your negative comments as positive ones. This is a thread for positivity only.

Crystal drew a bunch of extra sprites so that every single Pokemon had an entrance animation

Gave us double battles which went on to be the competitive standard

Phys/Spec split made it so there could be a much bigger variance in moves besides type and base power

Alder is a fucking awesome champion
>gen 6
Riding Rayquaza into space to fight Deoxys is hype AF
>gen 7
Easily the most experimental games. Professor as the champion to reference the old scrapped idea from RBY is a nice touch
>gen 8
The wild area was genuinely fun to explore and seeing wild pokemon in the overworld instead of having random encounters made the world feel much more alive

Music is pretty nice, FR/LG are great remakes, Colosseum/XD are some of my favourite games in the series.

Introduced customisation, I love Furfrou and the fact that you can trim its fur.

While the cutscenes are sometimes annoying and it makes replaying it painful, I liked the story. I also like the Ultra Beasts.

Pokemon mansion was awesome, finding out about some thing called mewtwo and mew and shit, that was kino.
Gen 2
All of gen 2 was great, pokemon designs were awesome, the legendary myths and stuff were great, red gyarados/shiny implementation was a good idea.
Gen 3
Contests are one of the greatest additions the games ever had, as are battle frontier. Sevii Islands. Regis.
Gen 4
I love the lore of sinnoh and how you explore it throughout the game. Spear pillar music was great, I think in general sinnoh has my favorite music. It continues a lot of the stuff from gen 3 and it updates johto/kanto

Gen 5
I like the region concepts a lot and dream world is cool. The fact that the games have direct sequels is cool, no other games really did that and I think it adds to the fun since they together feel like one big story.
Gen 6
Riding latios around was great, and the whole delta episode was fun
Gen 7
Pretty great concepts, again lots of lore and story, ultra beasts are a rad concept and each one has a stellar design.
Gen 8
It had a lot of potential, the base ideas in the game are good and I feel like if they just put in a little extra effort and fleshed some stuff out, the game would have been great.

Highly replayable. So many different routes, and Pokemon availability explodes after you get cut and if you can transfer in a drink for the guards.

A much more cohesive design for the world, and so many secrets in it. Every time I play I find more hidden items I never found. It's also one of the only Pokemon games to actually feel like a challenge since the leveling curve is so low.
>Gen 3
Hoenn is just so fucking big. Even if at least a third is water, there is just so much to see and do every time. Breeding for contests/facilities/etc. Emerald is a game full to bursting.
>Gen 4
The refinement of the first 3. The move split was needed. Sinnoh carries over a lot of what Hoenn has in features, and bring the cohesion from Johto. It's not perfect, with having 2 Pokemon exclusively for just exploration, but it's a great blend.
>Gen 5
They started trying with characters and it worked. B/W has incredible character stories, and B/W2 is a celebration of "people who want to play Pokemon." It's another game full of just shit to do for hours on end.
>Gen 6
Gen 6 is my least favorite because I feel it got shafted, not by any fault of it's own. X and Y are my favorite games to replay because of the sheer variety of Pokemon and moves available. There's so much missing in these games, but what is here I think is very pretty. Also, the music is something I slept on for a while. It's all very good.
>Gen 7
Alola got the treatment Kalos should have. Polished to a sheen. Taking the character strength from Unova and applying it to a game that shakes up the formula enough to feel fresh. A region that is one of the smallest around, but very meticulously designed. USUM kind of ruin the character bit, but I really love the Rainbow Rocket episode. It's silly and fun.

This was a game certainly made for people to get into the vgc. Raids and other mechanics hand out good pokemon. Makes it easy to get online and just play.

Fun with 2 screens. Dipped our toes a little into 3D. Nice evolutions.

I liked that it introduced difficulty modes and achievements. Sad it went away next gen.

Petting and feeding your Pokemon is fun.

Replacing gyms with something else is an interesting idea, just wish it was better executed. Rotomdex is cute but wish it was an actual form you can use in battle. Warpholes are great and I wish they would come back.

Rotomdrone and Rotomjob are also cute but wasted new form potentials. Raid battles and wild areas are cool ideas but poor executed. Best part of the game is the trainer designs especially the girls. Gloria is so cute!

Kanto starts it all, I was born with the series in 96 and still think the mons' artstyle is best, as well as the tone in the games, anime, and adventures!

Johto adds breeding and time mechanics, and a second set of gyms!

Hoenn has a great natural style in its terrain and is very immersive, and you can camp out in secret bases! it also improves the berries and weather from gen 2!

in Sinnoh, the legendaries were taken to the logical conclusion, and the physical/special split is a famous fix. the route design is still great!

Unova outside of japan forces you to use the new mons, which are the largest number. the story is at the front of the experience with a nice evil team twist and the gym leaders actually doing something, and most important of all, the game has seasons!

The jump to 3d, ability to pet your mons, and Megas are all based!
>GEN 7
Regional forms and Z moves are even better than Megas, and in LGPE the riding/following pokemon are at their best, and there are even overworld pokemon!
>GEN 8
Regional split evolutions are great, as are the gyms being stadiums, and the wild area is a great addition to route design. Dynamax/Gigantamax forms make for a great alternative to megas as they are a big spectacle and don't feel overdesigned or like they're robbing an evolution design, they're great bosses!

It's what started everything and going back to the Red and Blue original games feels nostalgic in a good way.

Great region with a lot of lore and great music. Being able to go back to Kanto was very cool too.

Great Pokemon designs and the musics are top tier. Having two evil teams in competition was also a nice change.

Pretty cool region with nice musics, a great villain team and a challenging E4.

Peak Pokemon. Great characters, very cool story, god tier music and villain team too. The difficulty was good and it made me come back into being a Pokemon nerd.

Great region and pretty good 3D models for the time. Had a lot of fun online with some friends and i met a lot of cool people thanks to XY.

Loved the new Pokemon and Team Skull. Lusamine being bat shit crazy and the UB were pretty interesting too.

The best gym challenges for the hype and music alone. The new Pokemon are great and while the wild area isn't that great, it was nice to have some full 3D moments in the game.
