They stopped doing cross-gen evolutions after gen 4.

All you get now is forms, which don't help the original Pokémon, they just kinda make it again.

Not really, it's carved out a nice spot for itself in doubles. Sunny day + Eruption combined with trick room or a chlorphyll mon is nice.

Pretty much all the remaining johto mons that didn't already get a new evo in diamond/pearl.
