I feel like maybe Pokemon at this point has considered everything to be "finalised" which is why we're not getting any redesigns in remakes. Even LGPE's redesigns were on the subtle side and maybe that's the reason why we'll probably never get a remake that doesn't use the grid. Because the literal grid is canonically to how the city looks like how in the anime, Viridian City is depicted exactly as the few houses like in the games
