one time as a kid I did a random online battle in Diamond/Platinum(I can't remember if that game had a search function or if I found him in youtube comments) but either way you could talk to them through the microphone and him and his brother were mocking kyle because I was using my in-game team of like Empoleon and Golem with hm moves and they said like "this is the type of team they use in those YouTube videos mocking bad players" and it really hurt because I just wanted to battle with my bros

BW2 doesn't have the hardest gym leaders but the amount of Pokemon they have is not an argument. One good Pokemon with a proper moveset/ability is better than six fillers that just give you EXP.

this was due to the severe backlash of vanilla gen 5 dex, so its a damage control decision that shits on the whole unova concept being only gen 5 pokemon

Yes, but for reasons that apply to gym leaders from every game and are not exclusive to BW2 which has higher quality gyms than average.

I think you're being obtuse though, because no one has presented any kind of metric for judging the Gym Leaders in BW2. Like what makes them the hardest? The tactics they use? Having more Pokemon does at least allow Gym Leaders to, hypothetically, widdle players down.

Unova was never only Gen 5 Pokemon. As soon as you get access to Black City / White Forest, Pokemon from other regions start showing up in the Wild. They tried something and it wasn't liked, so they adjusted it. That's a good thing. Not a bad one. It doesn't ruin Unova in the slightest.

And that's why Gen 4 and 5 have better Gym Leaders than other gens, because this is actually the case and what makes them more memorable against their competition. Tate & Liza are also good for being Double Battles that actually take some use of the mechanics unlike, say, Raihan who at best has Breaking Swipe.

I don't remember if I did it in Platinum but I definitely did it in BW. I distinctly remember all of gen 5 having completely pushover gym leaders that were noticeably easier than the previous games.
