They are going to simplify it, and lower the difficulty of the games, but other than that nothing bad should happen. Pokemon is meant for everyone, and masuda wants to make it that way. It may mean dumbing down the difficulty, and potential handholding in future games, but it could also mean more fun content.

I don't think you should take that interview as a sign of anything, because that same Interview had Masuda say the Wild Area was an experiment on how people would react to "large land masses" in Pokemon.

The fact that they followed that up with LEGENDS means the feedback they got was clearly positive, so there is no reason to assume they'll "be too conservative" on LEGENDS.
