Why is the Alola region so damn small?

I find it very stupid to create such a small region for a Pokemon video game, plus it is so small as to totally ruin the gaming experience, the Alola region is the ultimate example of Game Freak's lazyness!

It's not really that small, it just feels like it because it's divided into four islands instead of being a single landmass like other regions.

It was the hardest pokemon game. It wasn't small and every pokemon game is linear.
