maybe it's not a perfect "utopia" but it's always seemed to me like a more innocent and idealized version of the world
conflicts and dangers are always mild and easily resolved
it has nothing like the horrors of the real world

The whole kid beating all the adults who have had and trained pokemon longer than he's been alive is because it's a series for kids. They're also given the most worthless pokemon so the kids who play the games won't have trouble with them. That wouldn't happen in a real pokemon world. The mafia wouldn't use zubats and rattata. That child and his pokemon would be beaten into a bloody pulp.

Wasn't the "light-hearted" region that followed that one full of Doomsday attempts and mentions that there are still wars and poverty along the way?

Lol yeah no, the games are like this because
1. They are kids games and gamefreak sucks at world building
2. The kids are rich little shits that live in safe areas, I bet Pokemon Centers aren't even free I bet mom just wires them the money each time, the game is biased by the perspective of a child. Parts of the games break the childs perspective like rocket hideouts inside of casinos or whatever the japanese equivalent is and the Orre games take place entirely outside that bubble and we see it's a rundown wasteland where almost everyone isn't above committing a crime

Because Masuda and the other execs retcon the "dark" stuff in the games during interviews, like saying Pokémon have never been forced to work/used as tools despite the anime and games showing it. IIRC a Dex entry in Gen VII says something about a bunch of Pikachu being used to power buildings, but Masuda said Pokémon aren't put to work like that. Despite Gen III having Machoke as movers. Gen I having Machop stomp ground flat. Gen II and III have Electrode as traps and power in the evil teams' hideouts, and Gen VI has certain Pokémon able to be ridden, and Gen VII straight up has a ride service to replace HMs. Tons of Pokédex entries also suggest Pokémon are used as tools, like Heliolisk being able to power apartments.

Oh and the anime shows groups of Pikachu being used as backup power for the Pokémon Centers.

The more broad definition of a utopia totally fits.

I wouldnt call pokemon a utopia, but i'd say its a near utopia - plenty of awful things do happen, but its miles and miles above the regular world.
