- Villages enable player to rest, take on new quests, purchase potions, and learn more about the story. No gyms, but there are other explorers like yourself and other interesting characters that want to battle.
- Can use Pokemon to interact with overworld, allowing player to explore new places and gather resources. Can chop down trees for wood, plant and harvest berries and apricorns. Player will gain access to a farm that they can build out with plots of land and gardening tools.
- Player will have to craft pokeballs using apricorns and wood.
- Camping will replace Pokemon Centers outside of villages. Similar to SwSh but will require resources to create a campsite. Pokemon interactions return from SwSh, as well as petting from XY. Cooking food with HQ resources will provide buffs.
- Pokemon can now evolve in the middle of battle.
- Player can use moves in and outside of battle. Can throw rocks, bait. Can use Pokedex in battle to analyze weaknesses (only works after having a previous encounter with that Pokemon).

- Similar structure to BotW, completely open world, no correct order to exploration. Can unlock different field abilities that will enhance traversal in different zones, such as Riding, Flying, and Climbing. Can unlock these in any order by catching the boss Pokemon in those zones.
- Four "big bosses", after defeating them can explore ruins to find Ancestral Arceus.
- DP remakes were originally going to be Let's Go style but with traditional wild battles, but due to fear of fan backlash they chose to replace the Let's Go overworld with one more faithful to the original games.
