I've been playing for years and never paid a cent. You can donate for donator points to buy shit, or just use pokedolars to buy those shits from the trade house.
Or just win events, there are events almost every day and the rewards are shinies, pokedolars and donator points.

Nah. If you want to get in pvp you do need money (breeding kills the parents, otherwise you'd make 2 6x31, breed them forever and the entire market would be 31 as the base making every single other pokemon useless)

If you just want to go through the story you don't need to do anything but play normally

If you try and use your brain for 2 seconds, you'd realize that not killing the parents would make all pokemon but 6x31 useless since you only need a few to breed infinite spawns.
