I like Gold & Silver more than Crystal so when i want to play a gen 2 game i never pick Crystal. Same with Red & Blue, i don't like Yellow.

Not sure why anyone would like it more other than the fact that Mareep isn’t catchable in Crystal and Suicune doesn’t roam in Crystal... Everything else Crystal brings to the table is pretty much an improvement, except locking Ho-oh behind all 3 legendary dogs, although I actually like this change because it feels more in line with the lore

The only first versions that are completely worthless to replay are Diamond and Pearl, the other ones have at least some argument in favor of them
Red and blue are arguably superior to yellow because no anime shit or a horrendous screeching sound on the title screen
GS can be played on a regular gameboy, have unique sprites and are better if you dont like the suicune shit or want a hooh
RS have better may+brendan designs and zangoose
sumo better story i guess

Recently started replaying the whole series while doing all post-game facilities and doing a living dex. Some mons are exclusive to first versions so for example I had to replay Sapphire to get Jirachi.

Not him, but I think Silver's sprites look better than Gold's (which were the base for Crystal's), even if theyr static. Also, if I'm replaying Gen II over IV, is due to nostalgia, and I didn't grew up with the aesthetic changes from Crystal anyway.

I've replayed Sapphire a few times, because Ruby and Sapphire feel more organic to me than Emerald, even though Emerald has more to do in them. Plus no autistic intro animations, which I would normally speed through.

This is just my autism, but I can't play Platinum. Everytime I play it, it just makes me wish I was playing Diamond or Pearl instead, I know Platinum is objectivelly better but all the little differences just bother me too much.

The sprites for each games were wildly different back then. Some sprite poses in Gold and Silver are better than the animated sprites of Crystal.

Battle speed is fucking HORRENDOUS thanks fuck I'm emulating so I can just turbo the game sometimes.
I'm dreading the snowy areas and the surf king ones too ci sidering you guys also say those are snail paced.
I'm currently at Hearthome and a other thing that catches my attention is that this versions look blander.
For example, Eterna forest doesn't have the gloomy atmosphere, it looks like yet another daytime route.
At least Dawn's outfit in this version is cuter.

Pretty much just Red. I used to play Ruby instead of Emerald a lot when emulating Gen III, can't remember why, but now I soft reset for shiny legendaries and events. I've replayed Silver a lot. I actually only played Crystal for the first time last year. I never saw a point in getting it since Celebi wasn't legitimately obtainable in the English games until Crystal's VC release and Gold and Silver let you catch both legendaries. Now I play Crystal because of Celebi.

You don't fall into the snow as much as /vp/ wants you to think. You pretty much just go north for that whole route and you probably won't fall in more than 5 times.
