What you're doing is mixing up the art style with the design.

Most people prefer Sugimori's watercolour art style, but that doesn't make the designs themselves better.

Yeah, just compare GSC/RSE designs with the HGSS/ORAS ones and the change in how they design Trainers is super apparent. They make it super obvious what their speciality/profession is based on their clothes which I suppose ought to be a good thing but their clothes aren't realistic at all
