The dex knew about the native pokemon from Kanto & Johto, and people were only using them in the League. Then this Blaziken dude shows up and whoops our Ash outa nowhere. I swear its illegal to use Blaziken in that competition. If the dex doesn't recognize it then how tf can the trainers prepare, going by anime rules?
Or did the dex recognize Blaziken? I cant remember. I'm gonna feel dumb if it did in the ep. It probably did. fuck me.
Anyway yes, at the time, almost all the Hoenn mons triggered me, and I've habitually looked up the new roster of mons to complain before getting the game each gen. Funnily enough, I find Hoenn far more similar to the originals today as the style evolves each gen. Hoenn is classic now.
