Hello poke-anons

I am curious if anyone knows this info. I have read before that Game Freak originally wanted to partner with Sega and to put Pokemon on the Game Gear, but that the deal fell through for whatever reason and so they went to Nintendo. Is this true?

Secondly, assuming the above is true, has a fan project ever been attempted to remake Pokemon Red/Blue for the Game Gear?

Pic is not a legit Pokemon for GG, but rather a pirate romhack of another RPG with sprite changes.
