Good. Then players are forced to choose carefully whether they'd want to waste a TM on a pokemon.

Gen 5's tm changes were unironically one of the worst changes in the game.

Nah, it epitomizes the issue a lot of RPGs have where a limited use item is too good to use because you can't get it again. When I replay FRLG I usually use Marowak since it gets Bonemerang, so I can use the EQ TM on someone else

swsh's TM and TR system would be perfect if there was more way to get points other than raids, or if you could buy points with money.

I'm okay with the good moves being single use, but they have to be reobtainable.

I genuinely don’t understand people who think one use TMs were ever a good idea. Did you really only ever want to train a handful of Pokémon? I get the criticism of having infinite use TMs pre e4 kinda sucks the challenge out though

I wouldn't call it game design nor is it just one feature in particular that bugs me but, the thing that pisses me off the most is the lack of communication on any QoL features being added. It's never all at once. For example, the fact that we only just NOW got the ability to swap a Pokemon's ability to its Hidden Ability has caused so much strain to players, such as my self, who work harder to make up for bad rng, only for them to add the QoL AFTER the damage is done. You're never guaranteed anything until it happens, so it makes it incredibly hard to play because it's a bunch of waiting until they decide they'll implement the change you wanted, which would be in the next game rather than it being a patch. Or it could straight up be never, or you bite the bullet and regret it later.
Still waiting for a feature that'll swap my existing Pokemon's Pokeballs so I don't have to toss them away like trash for another, only to get the feature after. Again, not necessarily game design but still something the games suffer from that infuriates me to no end.

The compromise for older gens was to either equip your mon with a TM and trade it to another game or to trade your mon to someone else and they would use the TM for you. It was stupid because you ended up with people just trading pokemon for items.

In the Mystery Dungeon games they got around this by making TMs one use and having a TM Recharging NPC because the TM was never consumed, it just turned into a "Used TM" item

There are a lot of ways to fix TMs. I think simply making them infinitely reusable is a little simplistic.

I would say my preference would be to make them reusable but have a cooldown period after each use (say, a step counter). Then when you beat the Elite Four your TM drive is upgraded and the cooldown period is removed.

The problem is that you can't farm any of them. Unlimited TMs are fine, if you want to prevent the player from getting access to powerful moves just lock the best ones behind the post game.

I get what you're thinking but I don't think that's much of a barrier to entry.
If that was the case, any time I got a new TM I want to use I'd use it at the daycare then bike around until I can use it again. If you made it battle dependent I'd battle some insubstantial shit.

The point is, a major game mechanic like "what you can actually do" shouldn't be restricted arbitrarily. Why even make Move Tutors difficult to get to? You should be able to sort out moves from your PC, it's not like it's an exciting challenge, it's just inconvenient.

HMs after gen 1 were full retard. In gen 1 they felt reasonable because there were only 5 of them and 2 were optional. Every gen after decided to have 2-3 water HMs for some dumbfuck reason and it's stupid that it took them 7 generations to remove HMs entirely.

The running shoes being a separate item instead of just being in-built into the game's movement and having to hold B to run was always stupid.

Adding natures without putting in a way to change them until fucking gen 8.

IVs existing at all.

Why would you want to play a new game and use old gen pokemon?

Whenever I start a new shiny game I don't just go and catch a growlithe, magneton and psyduck and play the game with them.
I want to catch and use the new shit that was introduced in a new fucking game.

So yes slotting gives you more variety but not in the way anyone wants.

I use old gen Pokemon in new games because I never used some of them before. Roselia (and the crossgen line) might have been in RS and DP, but using it in XY is still a new experience if you went with a different mon instead.
