Nobdoy was complaining about their assets aside from the shitty textures for the trees. The problem was always their art direction, otherwise. From animations, to color choice, to the design of the map, those were the things that people really disliked.

I still maintain that very few people would have shit on swsh visually if it wasn't a proxy argument against the dex cut. I'm convinced that GF could shit out a mobile knockoff in unity and as long as it had a full dex and a couple battle facilities people would treat it like a gift from God

SwSh looks good, I can admit that, the issues is that the towns are fairly empty and a lot of assets are either completely pointless or copy-pasted. Its hard to enjoy a game's look when routes are tiny and there isn't anything to do in towns after you pick up some hidden items. SwSh would be ten times better if they dropped wild area and had made more to do in their big-ass towns. Not to mention a few towns are the 3D equivalent of pallet town, which does not work in 3D. The dark town being just a hallway is also hilariously bad
