This is my solution to the boxes being too small to hold living dex's in earlier gens.

They can actually hold living Dexes in every game, but for Gen 3 you have to refrain from catching all the Unown forms.
That's it.

Form changes in general aren't viable to collect for a living dex, you just don't have the space to dedicate entire boxes to stupid gimmick shit like Unown and Vivillon.

This alone makes the originals not worth playing after frlg happened. Your adventure started with "here's a pokedex, go catch them all" and then the space they set up for your collection isn't set up to switch to the next box when the current one is full. If they couldn't make it happen automatically they could've at least made the warning pop up after catching/placing a pokemon into the box filled it up so you could fix that before you tried to catch something else.
