Too lazy to look it up the archives myself, but someone posted a site that facilitates trading in older games. You have to use a special DNS to redirect the traffic (since for all intents and purposes, the game thinks it's still communicating with Game Freak/Nintendo), but the site was pretty barebones, with people asking for Legendaries in exchange for the trash Abras they've put up.
Hold on, now my interest is piqued....
