7 years ago I gave away my only copy of Pokemon Black to a girl i had a crush on. Stupid I know. I now don't have a copy of Black (or White for that matter) and am desperate to play it, but somehow this game from as recent as 2011 now costs upwards of 200 in any chosen currency to get a legit copy. What gives? Help me out /vp/.

the prices on ebay seem to be around 80USD right now, so not sure where you're seeing 200 in any currency, unless of course you want it brand new. Maybe you can find something a bit cheaper locally on kijiji or FB marketplace, but chances are you'll just have to pay up.

you can batch it via boxes or individually, it works for every generation and will enable you to transfer monsters from generations to others they couldn't, complete with conversion to that system, it is extremely useful and will also tell you all the stats and hidden stats. You can use it to generate monsters and inject them but I'm not a cheater

At this point unless you're lucky or can read japanese, you will not find an authentic copy for cheap. You have two methods.

1. Emulate: if you just wanna play the game this is the cheapest way, its not like Nintendo or Game Freak are making money from it anyway.

2. Flashcart: If you want to play on an actual DS, then an R4 cart is the way to go, certain models are as low as $15 or so, much better than a bootleg. Though keep in mind that they cannot take advantage of Gen 5's DSi Enhanced Features due to being run in DS mode.

Yeah, I got mine in 2013 for $30 per game used. And have my DS era games for about $40 CIB.

I have them all physical, but when a loose cart is going for upwards of $70 its just not worth it besides collection value and "Muh Legitimacy"

I just really don't understand how these games, especially cart-only copies, have all gotten so valuable. Pokemon games have always done a good job of holding a solid resale value so it's not surprising they could hover around 75%-100% MSRP like Crystal, Emerald, Plat, and HGSS have done their whole existences. But why the hell are people paying $100+ for BW2 carts all of a sudden? The Pokemon games are all some of the best selling games on the DS, tens of millions of copies of these games exist. It reminds me of utter nonsense shit like how FFVII was somehow like $70 back in the mid 2000's.

Seriously, learn Japanese. Pokemon is an excellent way to help with basic reading. And you can get the Japanese ones on ebay for retail (not great but still better than the english versions) without worrying about counterfeits.
