Ever since I was a kid, the main appeal to pokemon to me is training, growing, and becoming friends with oyur pokemon. I never cared for midmaxing or making a team of broken pokemon, I always made a team of pokemon I loved and others I grew attatched to. This idea was probably spurred by the anime, but still. Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to have my favorite pokemon (meowth) follow me everywhere like pikachu from the anime. I wanted to dress him up and have him do things with me.

This might sound dumb or faggoty, but are tehre any mainline games or romhacks that allow this? To allow you to share a bond between you and your party and/or chosen pokemon? Its a very specific question, I know, but I figured it wouldnt hurt to ask.
