Not only does making her the champion make her speech about strong vs weak pokemon have more weight, dark functions as a great boss type since you've probably only seen one (geisha umbreon) at that point, and how it functions as the counter to the originally OP psychic. For HGSS I'd keep umbreon and instead replace vileplume with weavile. I know vileplume gives her some diversity, but umbreon is tanky and perfect for a champion.

Yeah that's true, even though ideally I'd rather give Umbreon to the Ecruteak City gym leader, to balance it's lack of Ghost Pokemon.
But honestly I kept Vileplume for her team not being full Dark-type as she wouldn't be Elite Four

This would've made perfect sense and I just realised now. Not only was Dark introduced in Gen 2 to counter the overpowered Psychic, but the pseudo legendary of Johto is part Dark. She's an interesting character that could've gotten the attention necessary as Champion. What the fuck Game Freak?
