Half of his team are from gen 1, more than half if we count Farfetch'd.

The only mon I think isn't a complete soulless shill is Dracovish and that's about it.

It's just weird. Before he would always have a Regional team of 6 (Hoenn, Unova, Kalos), or pool his entire lineup together (Johto, Frontier, Sinnoh). This one is kinda random and whimsical.

Because Dracovish has literally not appeared besides it's intro chapter.
Because Gengar is a complete and total jobber.
Because Farfetch is utterly redundant since Lucario is also there, and it's also a massive jobber.
Because 95% of the screentime has been on no one but Lucario.
Because only Dragonite has both a personality and good fight record.

This is what gets my goat. Ash and Go have been travelling all over the place but all of Ash's catches bar Farfetch'd (Dunno bout Vish since I'm in desperate need to catch up) and even then Farfetch'd is a regional variant.
