The region itself is both boring and too linear.
The mons themselves are crap, as you said, for the most part.
Gen 5 always felt like a fangame to me. It fits perfectly well alongside pokemon reborn, rejuvenation etc etc
Story is overrated imo. Characters too. N is not that interesting.
