Eh, I think Pokemon will be back. Sooner or later. And when I say that, I mean the Pokemon that you used to like. And when I say you, I mean everyone who hates Gen 8, didn't like Gen 7, was disappointed by Gen 6. And, well, if you didn't like 3 through 5, I'm still talking to you. The Pokemon that you like will be back, sooner or later.
As the kids of today's generation grow up, and research the roots of their favorite hobby, and as Pokemon once again wanes from public interest, it will once again enter a sort of renaissance era defined by complex, emotionally/cognitively provocative works of art. And with many years of experience and hindsight to draw from, they'll be even better than the experimental designs of the past.
I don't know how long it will take, but Pokemon will be good again, even if it a part of that proposed renaissance comes to be defined by higher quality fan-based material, the franchise will evolve again.
