It is weird how “realistic” pokemon are always depicted as grotesque. Real animals are often fucking cute or beautiful, have they never looked at them?
That detective pikachu movie doesn’t seem like it does edgy “realism” but the uncanny valleyness of what I’ve seen still makes me not wanna see it

Now with realistic eyes in the same proportions (or closest to it as possible), just give it realistic textures. You can also shrink the head of some first stages a little, but babies having bigger heads is somewhat common, so I thought it was fine in this case.

DP was smart to conserve the silhouettes and proportions, but I think they also misinterpreted a lot of designs.
Charizard for instance shouldn't have been so coarse and scaly, it should have had smooth skin like a salamander.

The designs we usually see are abstractions filtered through a cartoony art style. The Detective Pikachu designs are more like what Pokemon what would look like if they existed in our world, or how we'd see them if we lived in Pokemon's world.
