too many filler, that were mostly bad, cotw were also mostly junk, brocks shitty "whoo, some random girl!" came back and misty still didn't do anything of actual value - and that shit for around 160 episodes. oh, and the "main" reason ash went to johto never even came to fruition.

the best the anime has ever been was between the first episode to the end of the sabrina fight, nearly every episode during that stretch was kino. after that it becomes more about separating the good from the bad until mid-johto, then practically nothing that's happened since is worth watching.

The entirety of Johto is among the lowest points of the entire anime, and Hoenn was a big improvement. Sinnoh was better than Hoenn.

I started to think it was always garbage due to it being a kids show and nostalgia blabla. But when I watched some of the older episodes they were quite enjoyable. Even gen3 and 4 ones are still ok. Gen5 finally kills it with resetting ash to 10 years old and making him a beginner again.

Also the main trio lost their spark. Ash was boring, Misty was Togapi baby sitter and Brock was horny. Team Rocket also become annoying. Every episode was Ash and friends are working down a dirt road and meet character of the day who either has one or hundreds of Pokemon of the say "Slowpoke was always reappearing for some season in Johto" Team Rocket try to steal it and Pikachu but don't the end
Ash's team was really weak to. Nothing evolved and he hung onto his Kanto mons for too long and boxed Heracross for no reason and got Phanphy so late, what was even the point?

i think the problem was season 1 had an entire leauge done in 80 episodes then season 2 were 40 something episodes,
johto was strecthed over 3 seasons with 50 something episodes wich made it drag on but imo johto was still more enjoyable than what came after

It wasn't even just the extended length, the CoD and filler episodes were boring and inter changeable. Compared to OG series you'd stuff

Yeah, Johto was when they started to streamline the filler episodes and only going all out for gym battles/plot related episodes. This carried on till XY and it is not a surprise why they lost so many viewers. You can’t expect viewers to keep watching when over 50% of the series is crap.

This. Kanto through early Johto are the only seasons that are halfway decent, everything after that until SM is a mishmash of worn-out Kanto tropes peppered with far more shitty filler and mindless episodes than Kanto itself had, plus a degrading cast chemistry primarily due to Ash getting less and less interesting as a character/personality and the show becoming more and more international. The only reason they get defended on here is because a lot of zoomers here have nostalgia for the later seasons plus self-insert fags who never shut the fuck up about DP and XY because how "competent" Ash is at battling is literally all they care about.
