The only reason I think they might have done so was because Kris' hair isn't brown or at least dark. Dawn isn't brown, but it's still dark enough. Serena is more light, but I guess it's more natural. Kris is the really the only one in the main games to have a hair color that stands out when it comes to the pc. Despite the fact the game is full of funny hair colored npcs.
