I still use mine every day; you can get at least 3 rare candies a day if you use the Sinnoh Field or Sightseeing route and step 5,000 steps. It's basically passive (only takes 10 minutes to get 3 rare candies with Dowsing).

thing is trash
all the pokémon that you could get via walker, were mostly easier obtainable through regular gameplay. much quicker!
