>>46579545That is very much the case. Game Freak doesn't have the time or really skill to pump out good HD games on a yearly schedule. The development time between Gens used to be 4 years, but they started pushing for 3 year cycles because new Gen pairs sell significantly more than third versions and remakes, so it's more profitable to do a marketing blitz more frequently.
>Gen I: 1995 (finished)>Gen II: 1999>Gen III: 2002 (really shows)>Gen IV: 2006>Gen V: 2010>Gen VI: 2013>Gen VII: 2016>Gen VIII: 2019I felt that RS were rushed in a lot of ways, and I think a lot of people felt that coming off of Gen II. The leap to the GBA from GBC still felt like a massive leap, but in terms of overall content, RS didn't feel as complete as GS did. But I think Game Freak felt compelled to release Pokémon on the GBA as soon as possible because everyone was saying the brand was dying and losing popularity, and Masuda was even hospitalized for stress.
At some point in the past 10 years, the financial success of the franchise at large began to outweigh the desire for critical success with the source material. Pokémon was bigger than Game Freak, but they were still the golden goose that needed to pump out eggs for distribution. After a while, the golden eggs became regular eggs became cracked eggs, but it didn't matter as long as they were pumped out. And people didn't even notice because it was about brand recognition. "This is from the golden goose so of course it's good!"
