It’s not a falsehood. There’s a reason why they never did this Pokémon location pattern again. It’s because people like playing with the Pokémon they enjoy throughout the game rather than just the end of it. It’s not rocket science, nostalgiafag. Yeah, 'cause they've never had the balls to make a game with 2 regions since. But even so there are several instances of this in newer games, like how in RSE you can't find Bagon until you have the last gym badge or get Beldum until after becoming champion. Not having any new Pokemon to find in the late/endgame would be fucking horrible.

Late game yes, every game does NOT have new generation Pokémon in the post game. Late game isn’t even that great either, black and white for example you couldn’t get braviary until just before the elite 4 and at that point it’s like why even bother having it on your team.

Bagon and Beldum lines are psuedo-legendaries, so I don’t have a problem with it. And even then, it’s only two compared the several Pokémon lines in gen 2. Compounded with the fact that so many new Pokémon were baby Pokémon or trash like jumpluff or ledian and the actual number of usable Pokémon vastly decreases. It's literally only Murkrow, Houndour, Slugma, Misdreavus, Sneasel and Larvitar. Minus Sneasel if you are playing Crystal since it can be found in Ice Path there. OR minus Murkow, Larvitar and Misdreavus if you're playing HGSS since Misdreavus can be found in Cliff Cave and the other two in the Safari Zone. Stop being such a whiny goddamn BITCH

I dont understand why people think there are no or too few johto mons in johto. You can find literally like 90% of the new mons before beating lance. I'm just because youre too lazy to explore or too impatient to search for rare mons doesnt mean you have to use the same starter/ampharos/togetic/eeveelution/red gyara/sudowoodo teams every time. Get creative. Explore. There are hidden gems like xatu in ruins of alph grass, skarmory in the route below blackthorn, early phanpy and teddiursa if youre playing crystal. I understand it can be frustrating not being able to use all of them or some of the best until after lance. But from my perspective the e4 in these games isnt endgame its mid game. As much as it does suck not being able to use houndoom or tyranitar in johto I understand why they did it. Like anons have said they want to have new mons to discover in the second half of the game. Not "postgame" post game to me is after red.

Having some of the coolest new pokemon like houndoom, scizor, steelix and tyranitar locked in the post game hurts its appeal, you cant even get kings rock to evolve for slowking or politoed until you've beaten all 8 gyms, that is unless you're catching hundreds of slowpoke hoping for a 2% chance its holding one. What rare pokemon are there on your way through the 8 johto gyms? Headbutting trees for Heracross? The choice in available pokemon you can find on your journey is terrible. You can't even catch a Murkrow til kanto.. Why???

Johto and kanto combined are smaller than Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova. Not sure about later gens cus i don't care but the point is that instead of dividing content up and having a shallow gauntlet of gym challenges they used the space more creatively to help the story. The Kanto post game is nothing more than travelling to 8 gyms and defeating 8 gym trainers, catching the legendary birds and mewtwo and then filling out the johto dex. They don't do the two regions in one game idea because they'd rather just make one larger region, which is the right thing to do.

You can get a free kings rock from the guy researching in slowpoke well after morty. You still have to trade for it. Emulating crystal on your phone mitigates all the pokemon distribution issues. Last time I used gameshark codes to give myself a larvitar, porygon2, and houndour at level 5 by spawning them on routes with level 5 mons. Simulating a traded egg. Then I spawned a steelix in b1f of union cave at level 8. Then I spawned a slowking in slowpoke well at level 6 once I got to azalea. Both simulating a catch and immediate Evo. Then I went to a route with level 14 mons to spawn a scizor, simulating getting a scyther at level 14 in a bug catching contest and evolving it. So yea just use a gameshark bro : )

Thats it. There are only 19 pokemon you cant get before the elite 4 out of 100 new pokemon. Less than 20%. Only 14 potentially (see list. Though if you play crystal you can't get girafarig, ampharos line, or octillery family) so it balances out.
Stop whining. Its not that bad. Dont be too lazy to look for unique or rare mons. If their stats suck thats a different debate.

Umbreon is literally the only dark-type Pokemon you can use until Kanto in initial version. Shit's weird. Scizor and Steelix requiring an item that is extremely rare on wild Magnemite to get them before Kanto is bullshit, but are at least theoretically possible and you do have Foretress and Skarmory as accessable new steel.

What is the point of introducing a new type and then making it postgame only? It's not even practical to catch and use one during said postgame because the levels are too low.

Doesn't help that Houndoom and Tyranitar are the only Dark types worth a damn in gen 2.

The problem isn't there aren't Johtomons in Johto, (I personally like the exploration that Johto games offer). The problem is that the Kantomons are far more prominent in the game overall (even the Johto gym leaders mostly use KANTOOOOO) which ends up robbing Johto of an identify and causing everyone call it "West Kanto". It doesn't help that Lame Freak intentionally made Johtomons weaker because they hate the Kansai region for some retarded reason.

Its hard to consider them the "end credits" when you have a completely different (admittedly small and relatively empty) region to explore including 8 different gym leaders, lower levelled mons to grind up newcomers to your team, and a final battle with red. The elite 4 feels like midgame in gsc to me. I know credits roll but your pokes arw all only like level 40ish and you have almost another complete game to do. Its hardly a definitive end. Gsc/hgss arw unique in this aspect. Also steels and darks are supposed to be rare/new/unique etc. And they didnt want to blow their wad halfway through the game. I feel like I keep repeating the same points always seen in these threads. I'm done arguing.

this always pissed me off OP. houndoom has always been one of my favorite pokemon and gen 2 has 0 good fucking fire types until you reach this guy AFTER the elite 4. All you have is growlithe and MAYBE arcanine if youre lucky enough to get a fire stone, magmar and flareon, again only if you get a fire stone. So gay.
