For example RSE and ORAS are set in two different universes, one where Mega-evolution (Gen VI gimmick) wasn't discovered, and one where it was.
So at that point it already means that each "version" of a game is a different dimension.
Then Gen VII came and hammered this even further by introducing UBs, Pokémon which came from alternate dimensions (One being a post-apocalyptic version of the games region).
And finally USUM let you visit those alternate dimensions, and let's you capture all existing Legendaries. Meaning that those legendaries are not from your games original dimension, but from another one. So this multiverse bullshit justifies how shiny legendaries work : There's just some of those dimension that has this legendary with a different color instead of the regular one
