So how old is Ash now? Are they still pretending he's 10? Burnet was pregnant at the end of SM, and in Journey's has already given birth. That means just between those 2 series has been at least 9 months, not even taking into account the kid isn't a newborn. Did the first 7 series take place in less than 3 months?

In the original series when ash gets his final badge, the group talks about how it's been a year since they began their journey. Idk if they say that in the japanese episode or not, but the series has always had these time progressions that just get reset when a new series begins.

English dub garbage. They only say it's been a year since they were last in Viridian City in the English dub, in the original, there's no specific amount of time. They just say "It's been a while" or something to that effect.

Pokemon Leagues are held once a year though, so obviously years have passed. It's just like was stated earlier, floating timeline, so the characters remain the same age despite the passage of time.

That explanation wouldn't hold up because you still need to collect eight badges before you can enter, and Ash walked everywhere on foot prior to Alola

Regions still aren't as small as they appear ingame. There's no fucking way you could beat all eight gyms and compete in the regional league in less than a year. Not to mention having to train your Pokemon (and by train, I mean actual training). Our journies in the games canonically take place over the course of several months.

I watched a video once where a guy counted every single sunrise and sundown seen in the anime, though he stopped at johto, because by that time 365 sunrises/downs had already passed. The floating timeline is the correct explanation
