Those two statements, together with things like Dawn, Lucas and Barry having no changes from their DP designs, seems to imply that there'll be no major changes to the region, the story and the characters from the original games. At the very least, that could mean no new subplots involving Giratina or other legendaries, no new forms, no new characters and no new areas, since that'd mean the story wouldn't be that faithful and the maps wouldn't be that preserved.

It's also not too farfetched to get expect the same to apply to things like Gym Leader/E4 teams, the Pokédex, and pokémon distribution. For example, ORAS made a point of it being a RS remake in order to justify not including certain QoL changes from Emerald. The same could easily apply to BDSP due to them being "faithful" to DP, not Platinum.

it *will* be worse than ORAS, at least ORAS had a few nice changes, like early national dex pokemon, mirage islands, and the delta episode. I doubt anything like that will appear in the remakes, and even if it does, it will not justify simply firing up platinum again. Unlike the first three gens, DPP aged remarkably well(slow battling excluded, but that was fixed in platinum)

Hopefully, compatibility with Swish, but also modernized mechanics. Kid, I'm not crying over the state of the remakes, there's still a little child deep within me that's looking forward to laying them.
But the rest of me knows the *actual* Sinnoh game is launching in '22 - the one continuing from where CT left off (confirmed by Game Freak when they said Legends was the future of the core games, they're going to take the lessons learned in Legends regarding map and level design and carry it forward in the series).
So yeah, the remakes will be good, they'd have to be, DP itself was good. But the actual game worth bothering about is still the one being made by Game Freak and not the pet who studio.

Yeah, that's why it's top-down 3D, instead of free camera right? Why GF passed off the game to do something COMPLETELY different to ILCA and more importantly, to claim Legends is the future of the series.
Or you could just accept they threw it at who devs to run it through the GO-games engine, because they didn't want to waste manhours on a remake, that wasn't actually trying to do what past remakes did and actually give the region a makeover.
AND THEN, they go and give the region a makeover in the style and engine they made the last core games in anyway.

now, to actually answer ^^' there are many ways to go about this and it will depend on how much freedom the studio will have but the worst case scenario will be mitigated by the on-the-fly boxing anyway since you will only need to put bidoof#3 in your team for 5 minutes after all. you just slugged through the snow and then the mud so you can't possibly mind some menu fiddling on top, right ?

I just checked, I clocked 200h on diamond, I feel like it was half menus, slugging and loading...

Scale, towns, and routes also "carefully preserved." Old players can enjoy it for its familiarity and new players will be the ones to experience something new. If you reproduce the story, script, maps, routes, block-for-block, then you made a nearly 1:1 of the original. What's left to change? The national dex? No way they're adding much more than the originals if SwSh couldn't handle it. Gym leader teams? Might make them weaker, but that's about it. It's a 1:1, anon. I'm sorry. This means it'll use DP's story and ignore any elements from Platinum, characters like Looker just don't exist along with Cyrus losing bits where he actually has more development as a character. Along with this it might also mean Postgame won't be changed if you count post game as story...which means Battle Tower with Palmer, underdeveloped Heatran, and no Battle Frontier.
