This is why I honestly prefer the ridiculously blatant shit like in BW with "we're dancing here for no reason! and later we're move for no reason!". At least they're acknowledging that it's just an excuse to prevent progression that would break the game's scripting/pace.

I don't get what they were thinking with XY's design. Don't design the region as nonlinear with all routes leading back to a central hub if you don't want people going to the hub and using the hub AS A HUB. Even RBY with its nigger guards apparently not letting anyone through just because they're thirsty is better than that.

This is true. Back when I used to actually bother with autistic shit like breeding for the correct ability/moves/nature, I'd just put all the extra ones on the GTS and easily fill up my dex. Especially for things like starters

I'll always hate Whitney for not giving me the badge. In the year 2000, Gold/Silver hadn't come out in Europe yet. My sister somehow got a floppy disk with the game on it in Japanese. I just mashed through the text like any game at that age, so moon runes were of no concern to me. Apart from when Whitney refuses to give you the badge unless you speak to her again. I couldn't progress with the game, so I spent hours speaking to (what I thought) was every NPC in every town I'd been to thus far. I never thought to talk to Whitney again. We didn't even have internet at home so I couldn't look up what to do. Damn shame.
