I really don’t like this character. The way the characters and the world only revolve around him doesn’t sit right with me.

I can't see goh being his replacement though. He already has one legendary (suicune) and temporarily owned another (eternatus), not to mention the plethora of powerful pokemon he already owns (cinderace, golurk, darmanitan, flygon, aerodactyl, scizor, heracross, pinsir, exeggutor, alolan exeggutor, etc). There's really nowhere for him to go.

Nah, Goh is deliberately the anti-Ash. He's supposed to be the self insert character for modern day Age of Information boys who are more introverted, tech savvy bookworm types, while Ash is the self insert boy for active outdoorsy kids who like to run around

Problem is, that goal just doesn’t work for the anime. Not only is it super boring and repetitive to watch but most of his Pokémon just end up background fodder rather than actual characterized parts of the cast. A goal like that could work for a rival character or someone not in focus 24/7 but it doesn’t work for a main character because of them having constant focus

Not so much replace Ash, but become the primary of the two protags for this series since GO sells better. Plus they make him out to just be outright better than Ash in every way and will probably catch up to him in terms of battling as well. This series will most likely end with the two battling before splitting ways and everyone will be livid that it'll be evenly matched or end up being a 1v1 with Cinderace/Lucario tying.
